Interestingly, I just checked to see what the A-level specifications cover in philosophy. No mention of the Republicans at all. In fact, I can only see one board offering A-level philosophy now - AQA. Only 3819 candidates. Only 180 top grades. If that is really all there is then philosophy is dying out in the school system. Hopefully, I am missing something but I doubt it!
We are about to kick off the first session. I have been completely thrilled by the take up of this session. I hope to see some of you there in an hour or so.
It’s extraordinary to have a focus on Greek philosophy without any acknowledgment of the contemporary thought that declares itself wholly as continuing it!!
While for example Aristotelian (Virtue) Ethics was lost to the West until brought to Italy by Islamist scholars during the Renaissance, it then grew robustly in Continental Thought, taken on board by Christianity through Thomism, and through German thought especially up to Hannah Arendt, finally taking it to the US in the 20th Century.
Now, and especially since Alasdair MacIntyre’s publication of ‘After Virtue’ in 1980, and Michael Sandel’s Harvard course ‘Justice’ open to all to follow free of charge online, neo-Aristotelian Ethics and Politics has become a mainstream part of Ethical and Political Thought. Meanwhile Environmental Scientists are waking up to recognising Aristotle’s notes on the harm to biodiversity caused by men over trawling for scallops in the gulf of Lesvos, Socrates’ concept of dialectic, used throughout Plato is taught on Teacher Education courses everywhere in the West, (and personally I delivered its merits to in service secondary school teachers from many Asian countries throughout the 2000s and 2010s).
Plato’s Cave is retrieved by Iris Murdoch and The Republic is taught as a whole on most Philosophy A Level courses.
It seems to be rather strange to be writing as if none of this exists! Pick up on it and expand it by all means, but don’t be saying we should all be heeding Greek philosophy while apparently ignorant of the extent to which we already are!
NB Knight’s ‘Aristotelian Philosophy; from Aristotle to MacIntyre’
It's obvious, the roots of Western civilisation are under attack, the foundations of which are being dug up and discarded, it's not difficult to imagine what will happen next, our civilisation will collapse and our enemies will rejoice. That's the real goal, that's why so many undernourished minds in academia want to destroy the ancient Greeks.

I meant The Republic! Spell check does not like it!

Stephen Law has a snappy piece on armchair philosophy:

I want to know what they did all day that gave them such a muscular physique!
Looks like it is sold out on Evenbrite. Is that really correct? Guess the old Greeks are popular after all....
It might have been a bug with Evenbrite. On the PC I couldn't register. However when trying on the mobile it worked.
Sorry kept hitting limit and had to keep lifting the capacity. It’s fine now. I underestimated demand!
